Study of human rotavirus genome by electrophoresis: Attempt of classification among strains isolated in France

Popis: Summary Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis permits the separation of rotavirus double-stranded RNA segments and makes it possible to distinguish different isolates. A simplified technique for RNA extraction has been developped; it allows the analysis of 110 strains. The method of classification we propose here permits to distinguish 29 classes of electrophoretypes among the 110 samples which were analysed. Additionally this study confirms the great variability of human rotaviruses on the basis of their electrophoretypes and shows, for the first time, mixed RNA patterns in human faeces.
