The influence of maturity, season and part of plant on matric bound water

Popis: Matric bound water as a percent of the dry weight was measured as water retained by plant material on a pressure membrane or ultra filter after equilibration under 20 bars nitrogen gas pressure and drainage away of free water. Matric bound water was lower in leaf blades than in petioles or young stems of a number of species. In stems the matric bound water decreased with increasing maturity and lignification of the stem portion. Matric bound water of deciduous leaves decreased with increasing maturity.
