Popis: | In two laboratory bioassays of the mycoinsecticide Metarhizium anisopliae var. acridum against field collected wingless grasshoppers, Phaulacridium vittatum, parasitism by the nemestrinid, Trichopsidea oestracea, did not increase the susceptibility of the grasshoppers to the mycoinsecticide. A statistical analysis showed that the parasitised grasshoppers were significantly less susceptible. The fungus also did not infect the parasitic nemestrinid larvae. These data suggest that treatment with the mycoinsecticide would have a benign effect on the parasitic stage of this important parasite, the treatment not changing the ratio of parasitised and unparasitised hosts in post-treatment populations. |
