Popis: | 1. 1. Some characteristics of the sulphate-ion regulatory mechanism of hydrozoan medusae were studied using radioactive sulphate ion. 2. 2. The half-times for sulphate exchange between sea water and medusae were calculated to be: Aequorea , 61 hr; Halistaura , 33 hr; Phialidium , 4·5 hr; and for cylinders of Aequorea mesogloea, 1 cm in diameter and 1 cm high, 1·2 hr. 3. 3. The sulphate excretory mechanism of Aequorea and Phialidium was found to exhibit saturation kinetics. |
