Popis:	The phenolic coupling of halogen-containing ferulic acid and methyl ester derivatives was examined with particular reference to the synthesis of lignans of the aryltetralin and tetrahydrofuran classes. (±)-Isolariciresinol dimethyl ether ( 18 ) and (±)-veraguensin ( 27 ) have been synthesized.
