Popis: Cancer is a disease which represents one of the leading causes of death in the world. Surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and combination of these strategies are the most common types of treatment. However, there are problems of efficacy, toxicity, and nonspecificity associated with the traditional treatment methods. Therefore, novel strategies are needed to be developed for safe and effective treatment of cancer with minimal side effects. In recent decades, various nanoparticles for drug delivery applications have been designed to overcome these problems and they have presented great potential for cancer therapy due to their chemical and physical characteristics and biological attributes. Nanoparticles are able to deliver the anticancer agent more efficiently to the tumor site with improved therapeutic efficiency and reduced systemic side effects. This chapter aims to revise different kinds of nanoparticles as anticancer drug delivery systems.
