An estimated amount of US $3.1billion was spent for malaria eradication and control programme in the year 2017. Still the world malaria report (WMR) 2017 estimated 219 million malaria cases with 43,500 deaths in 87 countries. Malaria eradication is the biggest challenge for researchers. Anopheles vector control and useful chemotherapy for the affected people are the principal strategies for malaria control. However, quick evolution and spread of resistance to insecticides and drugs are the main obstacles to fight against malaria. Nanotechnology is widely used in malaria treatment. It improves the effective range of the procedure and simultaneously reduces the adverse side effects. Nanotechnology helps in mosquito control and malaria therapy. Several compounds like lipid, proteins, nucleic acids, metallic nanoparticles, biodegradable polymers and plant-based compounds viz. seed, latex, stem, root and leaf have been favourably utilized for the elimination of malaria. Nanotechnology and its application connected to the prevention, control and therapy of malaria disease will provide an opportunity for the malaria control programme. |
