Popis: | We report a case of a 40-years-old man diagnosed with osteopetrosis at the age of 11. Since 11 years old, he had sustained 11 long bone fractures and these previous fractures were all successfully treated conservatively. He also had osteomyelitis of the right mandible since he was 19 years old.In Janualy 1996, he had suffered a subtrochanteric fracture of the right femur after a minor contusion, and it was treated consevatively but bone union was not achieved. In October 1996, he was referred to our hospital for right thigh pain and severe anemia. Physical examination revealed anemia on the palpebral conjunctiva, syrinx of the right jaw, contracture of the right hip and bilateral coxa vara. Laboratory findings demonstrated severe anemia, and an elevated level of serum acid phosphatase. Skeletal roentgenograms showed the classic features of osteopetrosis; generalized osteosclerosis, bone within a bone appearance, sandwiched vertebrae, etc.He refused an operative treatment for the nonunited fracture, so we treated conservatively with a long leg brace. To date, the fracture has not united yet. |
