Popis: Three different types of imperforate abalone shell morphologies are discussed and photographed and factors leading to imperforation in Haliotis are explored. Three plates illustrate this phenomenon. Additional plates examine the unique situation with Haliotis elegans Koch in Philippi,1845, and the soft parts of an imperforate specimen showing the absence of the pallial cleft, in comparison with a normal Haliotis. Additionally, three recently discovered small specimens of the black abalone with nacre-filled holes are also discussed and photographed.
