Popis: Demand-side management (DSM) and use of greener energy is a major tool that can curb the peaking of greenhouse gas emission in the health sector. The electricity consumption of efficient energy medical equipment is low, making them an effective DSM tool for reducing the rapidly growing electrical energy demand. This chapter aims to evaluate the prospective electrical energy saving in a scenario of retrofitting the existing conventional medical equipment with energy efficient ones in the rural healthcare centres (RHC) across six geopolitical zones in Nigeria. It further evaluates the technoeconomic energy savings, on the sizing of hybrid renewable energy system for the healthcare facility. The indirect reduction in emissions of greenhouse gases is also evaluated. In all, retrofitting of medical equipment saves significant energy as well as reduce the cost of setting up hybrid renewable energy for powering RHC.
