Much recent research has been devoted to the PrxYl-xBa2Cu3O7-δ system (“PYBCO”), for a wide range of values of x and δ, in both its normal (“n-PYBCO”) and superconducting (“s-PYBCO”) states. The reason for the interest in this system is the exceptional role of Pr in the “123” structure. With increasing x, the critical temperature T c for superconductivity (SC) falls, until for x ≳ 0.6, its SC is quenched. The experimental results and two proposed mechanisms for the quenching of SC in PYBCO have been discussed in a number of recent papers (see Refs. 1—6 and references quoted therein). |
