Popis: | The effects of electron correlation resulting from one-particle operators in third order are investigated. These effects are presented by an effective Hamiltonian having the form of a “quadratic crystal-field”. The fitting to the Stark structure of the J = 15/2 manifold by the “quadratic crystal-field” Hamiltonian gives good agreement with experimental data. The “quadratic crystal-field” Hamiltonian may be useful for the analysis of the energy-level scheme of Pr3+ ions in LiYF4 crystal, where there are problems in describing the higher manifolds by an effective one-electron Hamiltonian.
