Popis: A number of studies on various cultures have shown that sex role differentials are systematic where men are more traditional than women.~ This suggests that it may be worth noting differences or similarities in the structure of sex role attitudes between men and women. The outcome of this focus may provide some clues in the degree of cognitive similarities or differences between the sexes. If men and women structure their social psychological world differently, a high degree of incongruence among the dimensions of sex role attitudes between the sexes is likely which in turn may have implications for sex role relationships. If, indeed, this is the case, the validity of the popular sex role difference perspective may still have validity, though the current trend seems to be toward documenting similarities.: However, sex role attitudes are likely to be affected by the cultural conditions in society which may influence trends in research. For example, the former approach may be relevant in more traditional societies where sex role segregation is a likely pattern of behavior, whereas the latter perspective may be applicable in more modern societies where relationships between the sexes tend to be more egalitarian. In addition, some societies are characterized by strong distinctions between traits linked to sex roles, and other societies make fewer and less marked distinctions. There are also large variations in sex roles from one time period to another in the same society. For example, the behavior and attitude expected of women in Korea today is different from that of the past when women were exclusively confined to the home front. And sometimes these definitions vary among groups of people such as the village dweller and urban resident, the low and high social class, the young and old.
