Popis: | The tectonic evolution of the Pamirs-Tien-Shan region is outlined in general terms beginning with the Cambrian. Events and tectonic features connected with the Caledonian, Hercynian, and Alpine orogenies are discussed, and the effect of earlier movements on later ones are noted. Map and structure sections portray Alpine movements in some detail. A relief map of the Mohorovicic surface, derived exclusively from several lines of seismic data, is presented along with two N-S structure sections. The tectonic history of the different segments of this relief map is discussed in greater detail and correlated with the postulated thickness of the crust. The trend of present day Tien- Shan meganticlinoria and megasynclinoria is on the whole the same as that of Caledonian and Hercynian structures; inherited development is also characteristic of the Pamirs. On the whole the arcuate structure of this part of Asia is inherited from a similar arrangement of troughs and uplifts in the Paleozoic geosynclinal province. It ... |
