Tensile Strength of Pyrolytic Graphite up to 2750°C

Popis: The polycrystalline material was deposited on a syn thetic graphite substrate by decomposition of a methanehydrogen mixture at 2100 deg C; its specific gravity prior to tensile testing was 2.20. Stress was applied parallel to the plane of deposition. At 2750 deg C, only minimum strength values were obtained. These data indicate no maximum in the strength-temperature curve. Other graphite seems to increase in strength as the temperature is increased to 2750 deg C, or higher. (B.O.G.)
