Popis: The phase transformations that occur at the edges of samples made of austenitic–martensitic sheet VNS9-Sh TRIP steel during spark cutting are studied. Mainly an austenitic structure with a low martensite content (5%) is found to form at the edges of the cut. The removal of the surface layer, which has defects and a heterogeneous structure, from the cutting edge by mechanical processing increases the fatigue life of the material by more than an order of magnitude and the fatigue limit by 150 MPa (up to 900 MPa).
