A recently proposed model for macromolecular fluids is analysed by making some simplifying assumptions. The derived linear constitutive equation has the form of a time-convolution integral. For oscillatory rectilinear shear flow the frequency-dependent complex viscosity is derived, and it is shown that the model fluid behaves as a Newtonian fluid at very low frequencies, and as an elastic medium at very high frequencies. For rectilinear stationary shear flow the stress is given as a power series in the shear rate. Weissenberg's hypothesis is found to be invalid for this model fluid. |
