Beneficial effect of isoflavones to post-menopausal women with insomnia: A preliminary study

Popis: The purpose of this research was to study the efficacy of Isoflavones on insomnia in post-menopausal woman by the measurement of sleep quality. Post-menopausal Thai women volunteers aged between 45–60 years old who were living in Nong Khae district, Saraburi Province, Thailand, and had insomnia (screening by using DSM-V criteria). BMI was less than or equal to 30 kg/m2, no history of illness, no drugs or herbs or hormones consumption, no psychiatric history, no alcohol drinking or smoking or substance using. Acknowledgement of information and consent to participation was distributed to all participants. Recording the personal history and basic health information including GHQ12 questionnaire to screen mental health status and DSM-V diagnostic criteria was monitored by medical practitioner. The study was conducted with post-menopausal women volunteers with insomnia aged between 45–60 years. There were eight participants, divided into two groups: The first group comprised four participants who received Isoflavones at least 50 mg/day, and the second group comprised four participants who received Isoflavones at least 100 mg/day. Both groups were studied to compare the sleep quality by using the PSQI. The purpose of this research was to study the efficacy of Isoflavones on insomnia in post-menopausal woman by the measurement of sleep quality. The result showed that dose of Isoflavones ≥50 mg/day could improve sleep quality as dose ≥ 100 mg/day. And both groups could improve sleep quality when they had intake Isoflavones continuously for 2 weeks (PSQI scores: week 2nd < week 1st < week 0, respectively).
