Popis: |
The Na+/K+-ATPase is a membrane embedded protein primarely responsible for the active transport of sodium and potassium in mammalian cells. There are three isoforms of its catalytic alpha subunit and at least two of the beta chain. The three alpha isoforms differ from each other in several biochemical and physiological characteristics, and show a specific tissue distribution (5,11). Evidence is slowly accumulating that alpha isoforms may be differentially regulated by several physiological and pathological stimuli (10). Some data show for example that isoform ratios change during development in brain and heart, and certain hormones alter both the isoforms ratios and their abundance (4,8,10). |
