Popis: | Topical 5-aminosalkylic acid (5-ASA), which is known to inhibit soybean lipoxygenase and the inflammation in ulcerative colitis, was evaluated in 48 psoriatic patients with symmetrical plaques on the extremities or trunk in a double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial. The patients were treated for 2 weeks with 5-ASA cream on one side and placebo on the other side. The improvement of the 5-ASA treated sides was statistically more significant than the improvement of the placebo-treated sides with regard to the overall evaluation and the scaling and infiltration parameters. No systemic adverse drug reactions were observed and only minor skin irritation was seen during the trial. It is concluded that 5-ASA is a possible new treatment for psoriasis. |
