Popis: Overhead power line wires are subject to various atmospheric effects. The most significant of them are wind and ice deposition. Such effects lead to irregular oscillations and vibrations of wires. The reliability of the lines is determined by the fatigue strength of the wire material. The authors’ point of view on the possible mechanism of fatigue cracks in the line wires is presented. The main ideas of the method of estimation of structural state of wire metal by measuring high-frequency electrical resistance taking into account effects of accumulation of defects of crystal structure and cracking in surface layers of wire metal are presented. This technique allows you to evaluate the degree of damage to the line. Timely diagnosis increases the reliability of the overhead power transmission line.
