Popis: | 1. Minnows, Phoxinus phoxinus , were exposed to acidic water (pH 5) without or with Al (150 μg/l) at different Ca (0, 0.07, 2mM) and humus concentrations (5, 25 Pt-units) for 15 days. 2. Mortality among minnows exposed to acidic water alone decreased with increasing Ca concentration. Gills showed chloride cell hyperplasia only at the lowest Ca level. 3. Calcium reduced branchial Al accumulation and mortality was decreased at the highest Ca concentration. 4. Branchial Al accumulation was not influenced by humus, but humus caused decreased mortality at 0.07 mM Ca. 5. Advanced gill lesions were observed in all groups exposed to acidic aluminium-rich water. |
