Sphincter function in the urethra and the anal canal: A comparison in women with manifest urinary incontinence

Popis: | Thirty-three women with urinary incontinence — 26 with stress and 7 with urge incontinence — were examined with anal profilometry, a low complaint recording system using a perfusion catheter. No statistical differences were found in anal variables between the two subgroups. Individual urethral and anal pressures were unrelated. A significant relationship (r =0.41) was found between body weight and the reservoir pressures (i.e., bladder and rectal pressures). Seventeen women reported problems with anal incontinence, of whom all but one belonged to the stress incontinent subgroup.
