This brief essay discusses two aspects of the bibliographical production of the recently deceased Brazilian educator Jorge Nagle: on the one hand, the critical feature of his first work, Educacao e sociedade na Primeira Republica; on the other hand, the apparently conformist way of his interpretation of the Law no 5.692/71 in the book A reforma e o ensino. From a personal narrative, by which the essayist revives the meeting he had with professor Nagle approximately six months before his passing, these two Jorge Nagles are presented, in order to explore the dichotomies that separate them and the constants that identify them in (distinct) forms of thinking about Brazil’s “educational reconstruction”. |
