Popis: Introduction: Bronchoscopic visualisation of the lungs, has proved an invaluable aid for many specialities. There has been an exponential increase in interventional therapies. Their safe delivery is crucially dependent on the expertise of skilled endoscopy team. However, structured training for bronchoscopy nurses is limited. An in-house patient experience survey highlighted a frequent lack of understanding of bronchoscopy for example, anti-coagulant care and post procedure complications such as infection. Aim: To improve patient communication and nursing training in bronchoscopy. Method: A bronchoscopy care bundle (BCB) was developed to address communication. It incorporates a pre-assessment itinerary 1 week prior to the procedure and provision of a point-of-contact mobile number which connects to an ‘on-call’ specialist bronchoscopy nurse for post-procedure side-effects/complications. We also designed an education programme comprising didactic lectures, group tutorials and hands-on simulation using the Bronchoscopy BioSim [JLG] training tool. Results: Conclusion: These simple and regular interventions resulted in sustained benefits over the 6 months duration. Limitations of this project are the relatively small numbers of patients and staff members evaluated and the short-term duration of the project. Future work includes undertaking a multicentre study.
