Popis: | This paper discusses the wetting of a crystalline substrate by a deposit, and the metastable and equilibrium configurations that can be expected to appear during the growth of a film. The stability of thin film structures is related to the dependence of the system free energy on the coverage. In the case where the uniform film is not the equilibrium state, the stability against small perturbations or cluster nucleation is considered, Other factors that influence the film structure and stability are the degree of misfit between the film and the substrate, and the surface roughening transition temperature of the film-vapor interface. |
