Popis: A mercury-enhanced silver solid-state bond has produced reliable high strength joints in the bonding of Vascomax-250 (maraging steel). The joints are achieved by applying a uniform bond pressure across the mercury-activated silver-coated bonding surfaces at low temperatures. Mercury assists in making reproducible bonds by being an effective surface conditioner prior to bonding. The fractured surface morphology was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive x-ray analysis. 14 figures.
