Popis: | Water is a precious and limited resource. The demand for water is projected to increase in the future while the supply may be adversely affected by global factors such as climate change. This results in an increasing need to use water more wisely. The Government and the water industry are encouraging the adoption of water conservation measures. One component of these water conservation measures, among many others, is to use rainwater and greywater (water from sinks, baths and showers) as a source of water to reduce water consumption. This paper provides an outline of the main considerations for the use of rainwater or greywater, identifying its contribution to sustainable water management and discusses the issues that need to be overcome to encourage the wider uptake of the technology. The matters outlined in this paper are expanded upon in a series of reports available from CIRIA. |
