Traces of 10 nitrobenzenes in environmental samples such as river water, sediment and fish were determined by capillary gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) involving liquid-liquid extraction, steam distillation and column clean up procedures. The nitrobenzenes could be determined in water within the range 0.3–0.9 ng/ml with relative standard deviations (R.S.D.s) of 1.0–6.9%. The detection limits of the nitrobenzenes in water, sediment and fish samples were 0.12–0.23 g/ml, 1.9–10.9 ng/g and 2.0–8.1 ng/g, respectively. Their recoveries from river water, sea water, sediment and fish samples were 86–133%, 87–133%, 87–111% and 61–137% with R.S.D.s of 1.3–3.8%, 0.3–3.8%, 2.4–12.5% and 2.0–16.9%, respectively. |
