Oxide surfaces play an important role in technological applications, being used in catalysis and thin films growth. In particular strontium titanate (SrTiO3, STO) is a perovskite with a high dielectric constant, which is applied as a substrate material for the growth of high-temperature superconductor thin films and is becoming a promising gate dielectric in electronic technology. Several factors are known to affect the surface of STO; these include annealing (time and temperature), sample’s environment (reducing or oxidizing), and Ar+-ion thinning. |
