Popis: The study of this paper deals with the redesigning of existing OEM brake caliper to achieve better performance of the vehicle and reduce the stopping distance of the vehicle. A brake caliper of floating type has been manufactured for vehicles having maximum kerb weight of 1000 kg. The paper includes working and designing of floating brake caliper, parameters that affect its functioning and the machining to manufacture it. In order to identify the material that suits best for a caliper, a detailed market survey was carried out. The study provides stopping distance achieved and detailed static analysis to determine the load on the caliper, stress concentration and ascertain the factor of safety of the caliper. The manufactured caliper was used on an ATV to check its performance which achieved a stopping distance of 2.9 m. Thus, an attempt is made to achieve better performance of the braking system and minimize the problems faced in braking action.
