The current status of the application of Cross-Flow Filtration in the downstream processing of bioproducts is reviewed. Applications, such as cell harvesting and the recovery of proteins from cellular debris are discussed and analyzed with respect to the main influencing parameters. Based on a recently developed wall shear-stress model, a concept for the comparision of the performance of different membrane modules is presented. Additional, recent developments in the field, such as Rotational Shear Filtration and Cross-Flow Electrofiltration are discussed, too. |
