Popis: A department for the heat treatment of thin sheets of low-alloy and low-carbon steels has been pressed into service at the Amur Steel Plant. Hardening and tempering furnaces, a roll quenching machine, and conveyer and auxiliary equipment have been installed in thehardening section (Fig. !). Prior tO hardening, the sheets are heated to 900-980=C in the furnace. A stepwise reciprocating motion is imparted to the sheets as they are held in each zone. The furnace is equipped with an automatic system to monitor and control the temperature conditions in the zones; this makes it possible for the attendant to ensure uniform heating of the sheet up to the specified temperature.
