Popis: The Metallurgical Pipe Company currently faces an important and clearly defined task — develop and successfully introduce a technology for making corrosion-resistant oil-and gas-line pipe of strength class X42 for the Astrakhan Gas Condensate Deposit. At present, all the pipes being used on this project are imported. To ensure that the pipes will be highly reliable in service, the company tested different heat treatments for steel 12GB in order to form fine ferrite grains (subgrains) and spheroidized cementite. The regime found to be optimum from the viewpoint of achieving the necessary level of mechanical properties is normalization with tempering (high-rate or of extended duration) and quenching from the intercritical range at 820°C. The heat treatment that will ultimately be introduced will be determined after the pipe metal has been tested for corrosion resistance.
