BUOYANCY-INDUCED FLOWS IN SPHERICAL ANNULAR SECTORS: A NUMERICAL STUDY

Popis: | Calculated buoyancy-induced flows and heat transfer are presented for concentric spherical annular sectors defined by two isothermal spherical walls and an insulated radial wall at the sector angle. Over the range of geometric parameters examined, these results resemble published results for spherical annuli at low Grashof number Gr. As Gr increases, multicellular flows develop, followed by a reverse transition to unicellular flows. Reducing Gr reveals a second set of solutions, unicellular flows, for Gr between the transition and reverse transition, defining a hysteresis loop. Significant differences in local heat transfer result from these two solutions at the same Gr. |
