Popis: There are a substantial number of applications for mathematical models in the field of cell culture technology. A number of currently available animal cell culture models are identified and detailed. A structured model that is capable of addressing a range of key applications is developed. This model considers some 50 components in three distinct regions (the medium, the cytoplasm and the mitochondria) and includes descriptions of features such as glycolysis, glutaminolysis, the TCA cycle, the formation and utilisation of fatty and amino acids, competitive trans-membrane transport, product formation and cell growth and death. The overall model is modular in form and its structure is therefore amenable to expansion or adaptation to a range of individual systems.
