Popis: High rate of unemployment in the Niger Delta Region has manifested in numerous social vices, continue to limit development within the region The aim of this study was to examine the margins and returns from cassava and rice agri-business value chain within the Niger- Delta region with a view to identify priority enterprises which can provide enough incentive for the youths and move them away from such vices towards gainful employment. A Multi stage sampling design, complemented with stratification was employed to select 4 States (Abia, Cross River, Edo and Rivers) out of the 9 Niger Delta States, based on regional stratification and performance criteria under the recently-closed IF AD supported Community-based Natural Resource Management Programme to have a total of 200 respondents. Descriptive statistics and profitability analyses were used to analyse the data collected in line with the objectives. On the basis of the margin and returns on investment analyses, the study concluded that enterprise nodes within the two enterprises provided enough returns on investment to justify the need for value chain development in the region. The study therefore recommended that the enterprises were profitable enough to attract the necessary investment opportunity for development in the agricultural sector. •
