Iron deficiency is one of the five deficiency problems in many developing countries as well as in developed countries, [1] alongside deficiencies in protein and energy, iodine, vitamin A and water (dehydration in diarrhea cases). Ignorance and poverty are the most common important factors challenging the health professionals. Studies in many countries indicate that from the public health point of view, there are three broad categories of anemia: a) Nutritional anemia, b) Anemia associated with chronic infections or infestations, and c) Anemia associated with hereditary abnormalities of the hemoglobin molecule (including thalassaemia). |
