The Power Beaming competition was conceived as part of the Elevator:2010 Space Elevator challenge in April 2004 and proposed to NASA CC in June that same year. Formal agreements were signed on March, 2005, and the first competition, in “stepping stone” format, was held in October the same year. The next event is scheduled for October 2006, and will be held at the X-PRIZE cup event in New Mexico.
