An Act to provide for food and nutritional security in human life cycle approach by ensuring access to adequate quantity of quality food at affordable prices to people to live life with dignity and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. In september 2013, the parliment of india passed the National Food Security Act (NFSA) that made "Rights to Food" a legal entitlement for approximately three -fourths of the rural population and half of the urban population of India. Besides ensuring access to highly subsidized food grain, NFSA also made maternity benefits and nutrition for children aged six months to 14 years alegal entitlement. while it is too early to provide a comprehensive evaluation of the impact of NFSA, this paper attenpts to dicument its rollout and to discuss important innovations and challenges emerging form NFSA's early experiences in deffrent states and union territories (UTs). |
