In this paper the authors present the results of work on production of solar cells based on multicrystalline silicon using SoG-Si before final purification. The results of investigating the parameters of solar cells produced using SoG-Si as well as physical, chemical and electrical properties of the material at different technological stages from SoG-Si to solar cells are presented. Final purification of SoG-Si was carried out by induction melting in cold crucible (IMCC). This method has a number of advantages, namely high growing speed and absence of expensive consumables. Growing of ingots for their subsequent cutting into wafers was carried out by directional solidification method. Experimental batches of multicrystalline silicon ingots from purified by IMCC SoG-Si were received. The results obtained from investigation of solar cells parameters prove the promising nature of using the process chain with induction melting in cold crucible and a traditional directional solidification for production of solar cells from SoG-Si.
