The polarography of uranium in antipyrine solutions was studied in detail. A reversible and diffusion controlled wave was obtained over pH 1.5 to 4.7 and antipyrine concentration ranging from 0.016 M to 0.631 M. At pH between 2.3 and 4.7, the half-wave potential wasindependent of pH value. At pH lower one hydrogen than 2.3, ion was involved in the reduction. The U(VI)-antipyrine compound was found to be a chelate species of UO2A2+2 and UO2A2+2 in antipyrine of concentratration lower than 0.155 M and at pH 3.5, but was a simple complex species of UO2AG+2 in antipyrine of concentration higher than 0.155 M. The value of ia/C is constant at 2.7 and 3.2 for pH value 2.0 and 3.5 respectively, over a 4.4 × 10−4 M to 5.5 × l0−3 M range of uranium concentration. |
