Rheological behaviour of elastomer compositions based on poly(cis-1,4-isoprene) was investigated by means of a rotational viscometer during the induction period of the crosslinking process. The rise in viscosity observed during this period is by no means associated with the presence of vulcanization agents or an accelerator of vulcanization, since it proceeds even in their absence. The molecular mass of poly(isoprene) increases and the relationship between the molecular mass and viscosity obeys a power law with exponent equal to 5.6. An exponent of such magnitude can be explained by the formation of branched structures. |
