Popis: | The allergenicity of three vaccinal strains of Mycobacterium johnei was studied by means of comparative johnin and tuberculin tests in groups of guinea-pigs sensitized with each of the different strains. The degree of skin sensitization elicited by one of the strains was significantly lower than that of the other two strains. As there is at present no prescribed potency test for Johne's disease vaccines, it is recommended that in order to produce a reasonably standardized vaccine only those strains exhibiting a similar degree of allergenicity should be used. As the immunogenic properties of mycobacteria are considered to be closely related to their allergenic properties, it is also recommended that the most highly allergenic strains should be used. |
