Popis: | Trimethoxysilanes with long alkyl chains (C12–C18) and tetramethoxysilane are adsorbed on iron pigments. The silane molecules adsorb strongly to the iron pigments and form ultrathin layers on the surface. Upon exposure to hot and humid atmosphere, these layers reduce the loss of magnetization from 6.3 nT m3 g−1 down to approximately 1.1 nT m3 g−1. The loss of magnetization decreases with increasing layer thickness. The best oxidation protection is found for tetramethoxysilane. |
