Popis: | Intentional poisoning has become recognized more widely as a form of child abuse in recent years.1 Many substances have been reported as the agents used, including common table salt (sodium chloride).2-5 However, there is very little published information on the manifestations of salt poisoning when it is administered in large quantities in the undissolved, crystallized form. A case of fatal salt poisoning is reported which emphasizes two characteristics of crystallized salt that have not been described previously and which emphasizes once again that poisoning in young children may be a form of child abuse. Case Report A 5-year-old girl was brought to a local emergency department with seizures and hypernatremia. |
