Popis: | SummaryThe concentration of methyldopa in maternal plasma and milk, and of the sulphate conjugate in milk, has been measured in hypertensive mothers treated with the drug. Eight mothers gave samples which were analysed by high performance liquid chromatography using an ion exchange column and an electrocheraical detector. The total methyldopa concentration (free plus O-sulphate) in milk was less than 0·8 μg/ml in the samples studied. Generally the concentration of the O-sulphate in the milk was greater than that of the free drug; and milk levels were higher than plasma levels. The low concentrations found in breast milk do not contraindicate breast-feeding during treatment with methyldopa. |
