Popis: | It was emphasized in a recent review1 that 1) the determination of urine porphobilinogen (PBG) is the most important analysis in the diagnosis of an attack of acute porphyria, and 2) quantitative ion-exchange analysis for PBG is indispensable in the detection of asymptomatic carriers of acute intermittent porphyria (AIP). Existing methods for quantitative ion-exchange analysis of urine PBG are laborious, timeconsuming and expensive. The simple Bio-Rad PBG test, based on use of disposable resin columns and designed for qualitative assay of PBG, was therefore developed into a quantitative method and modified so that the disposable columns could be reused. This modified test, a feasible and economical technique within the reach of smaller hospital laboratories, is described in detail. |
