Boundary Condition Implementation for a Coupled Lattice Boltzmann and Navier-Stokes Methodology

Popis: A coupled Lattice Boltzmann – Navier-Stokes methodology is implemented for modeling flow control phenomena. The details of the implementation are presented in this paper. A one cell overlap between the Lattice Boltzmann (LB) and Navier-Stokes (NS) grids is used to exchange information between the two solvers. Benchmark problems are used to verify the coupled methodology. The method is next applied to the flow over a circular cylinder with a synthetic jet device for drag reduction. The LB solver is used to solve the flow physics at the small length scales in the synthetic jet region and the NS solver is used to model the rest of the flow domain. The results obtained are compared to existing experimental data.
