But what have pharmacists done to tell others? How do patients know? Pharmacists tell them and that makes it so, right? Unfortunately, it is not that easy. Pharmacists must first interact with their patients. This means you, the pharmacist, are asking questions and listening—and don’t forget to introduce yourself. I feel the pharmacist needs to develop a relationship with patients first; subsequent events are dependent on that relationship. Pharmacists should respect their patient’s level of understanding of their medication. Pharmacists should always answer truthfully and not be afraid to verify answers using respected resources. Many opportunities for pharmacists to educate the public exist. Here are some avenues you can take to increase public awareness of the pharmacist as the medication expert. |
